Wimbledon finals, one of the four most important matches in tennis, finished with fireworks from both Nick Kyrgios and Novak Djokovic. Last Sunday July 10, 2022, Novak Djokovic, former number 1, played against Nick Kyrgios, world number 45. Even though both Djokovic and Kyrgios were identified as having potential early on in their lives, Djokovic easily found motivation and enduring excellence while Kyrgios struggled to find motivation for the Wimbledon finals.
Although this is Kyrgios’s first time in a Grand Slam final and he had no experience whatsoever, he does have experience beating Djokovic. Twice, in fact. During the two times they faced off before the finals, Djokovic had an elbow injury and personal problems, thus leading to a much worse play than before. “Well, one thing is for sure, there are going to be a lot of fireworks emotionally from both guys,” Djokovic said on Friday.
Kyrgios, known for his short temper span and underhand serves, can make almost every shot that challenges him into an amazing show. From tweeners, shots that you hit from between your legs, to amazing dropshot winners, he really puts on a show for everyone to see. Meanwhile, on the other side, Djokovic has more of a smooth tempo and excels at almost everything and uses his skills as weapons. He also has a huge advantage on the mental side, with his mind being so strong he could almost win every 5 set matches he plays.
Starting in the first set, Kyrgios got the upper hand, winning 6-4, but there were still 2 more sets to go. Djokovic was not warmed up fully for the first set and came back to win the second set 6-3. Now that there was a tie, both men were at full attention. Djokovic won the third set with an easy 6-4, which set Kyrgios off. He had a comeback in the fourth set and tied the score 6-6. With a seven-point tiebreaker to see who won the set, Kyrgios’ temper got the worst of him, leading to tantrums. He lost the tiebreaker 7-3.
Even though Djokovic won the finals, he and Kyrgios are still on friendly terms, with Kyrgios even saying that they had a ‘bromance.’ “OK,” Djokovic said in his TV interview. “It’s officially a bromance.”
