STARVATION THROUGHOUT GAZA: ISRAEL THREATENS TO TAKE OVER GAZA
by Sophia Wang
Israel is planning to take heavy military action in Gaza. Palestinian deaths are increasing due to hunger and violence
Since the war began, Israel has limited aid and resources for Gaza by blocking the paths of food, water, and medicine. Citizens living in Gaza are suffering from extreme hunger, and Palestine is shrinking greatly in size. The United Nations has warned of the great risk of famine disrupting the people living in the area.
By May, Israel had allowed very strict aid to reach Gaza. People gathered in huge crowds, trying desperately to reach the only food source. Sometimes, Israel will shoot at the crowd, killing at least one of the people struggling to get food. Roughly 1,370 people have died attempting to get food and have been shot by the IDF. Another 200 citizens, including children, have died from a lack of food and starvation. Many people claim that not enough assistance was reaching Gaza, saying that the Israeli military was using the aid as weapons on their advantage. Mr. Netanyahu, however, states that what the people are saying is “completely false”.
Israel has taken over roughly 75% of Gaza. Mr.Netanyahu wants to take over all of Gaza, saying it’s the best possible way to end the war once and for all. Some people disagree with that. On Saturday, tens of thousands of people protested against this military action. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said, “The situation in Gaza has gone beyond the world’s worst fears.”
Israel won’t stop the war until Hamas surrenders, yet Hamas won’t give up until Palestine is recognized as a country. Close to 150 countries already recognize Palestine as a country. Recently, France, the U.K., Canada, and Australia have played a part in identifying Palestine. Even though Germany hasn’t supported Palestine as a state, but has limited the number of weapons sold to Israel.
On Sunday, several Gaza reporters lost their lives to an airstrike. Israel claims that one of their most famous reporters was among the Hamas. Still, they provided no evidence. It is possible that Mr. Netanyahu and his ex-minister might be arrested for war crimes.
