U.S. Drops Bombs on Iranian Nuclear Sites

On June 21, B-2 Spirit Stealth Bombers dropped six 30,000-pound “bunker buster” GBU-57 MOP bombs onto Iran’s uranium enrichment site, Fordo, and launched cruise missiles from submarines to nuclear sites, Natanz and Isfahan. According to Trump, the bombings are meant to force Iran into “unconditional surrender.” However, by bombing Iran, the United States has now forced its way into a war.
Iran’s goals for Fordo and Natanz, both uranium enrichment facilities, along with Isfahan, a research base, was originally to manage nuclear power; however, the program is weakened due to the United States bombing Iran’s most significant nuclear sites. According to President Trump, “The U.S. military carried out massive precision strikes on the three key nuclear assemblies in the Iranian regime: Fordo, Natanz and Isfahan,” The idea of nuclear power wasn’t what caused the bombings however, the fear of Iran crafting a nuclear bomb was part of the reason behind President Trump’s decision of bombing Iran, as according to President Trump, “Our objective was the destruction of Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world’s number one state sponsor of terror.”
Before the bombing, the United States alerted Israel of their operation to bomb Iran, dubbed “Operation Midnight Hammer,” yet not all United States government officials were notified of the action until the B-2s were already in the air.
Operation Midnight Hammer was conducted with a couple of decoy B-2 Spirits crossing over the Pacific Ocean and seven B-2s crossing over the Atlantic that would conduct the bombing. Meanwhile in the water, U.S. submarines launched Tomahawk missiles at Natanz and Isfahan. When the B-2s arrived in Iran, the 30,000 pound GBU-57s were unleashed on Fordo. Afterwards, the submarines launched their second wave of missiles, finishing Midnight Hammer.
After the bombings, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel praised and thanked President Trump, stating, “History will record that President Trump acted to deny the world’s most dangerous regime the world’s most dangerous weapons.” However, even with the praise of Mr. Netanyahu, critics and supporters from the Republican party in the United States have pressured President Trump for the bombing of Iran, which has highlighted a split of the Republican party in terms of agreeing or disagreeing with Trump’s actions.
In the beginning of President Trump’s term as president, he mentioned multiple times that he does not want to spark a war between the United States and Iran; however, Iran has stated that the country will retaliate against the United States. If Iran’s retaliation harms any Americans, Trump will be pressured to use more force against Iran. As of right now, the United States is preparing for retaliation from Iran.
