President Trump Enters U.S. into Iran-Israel War, Bombing Three Key Iran Nuclear Sites
On June 22, 2025, President Donald Trump authorized U.S. airstrikes targeted at three of Iran’s key nuclear facilities, marking the United States’ formal entry into the Iran-Israel war, aimed to support Israel and weaken Iran’s nuclear abilities to develop a nuclear weapon. “Our objective was the destruction of Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by (Iran)…” said President Trump.
President Donald Trump announced Saturday night that the U.S. military had “totally obliterated” three Iranian nuclear facilities, Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan. The attacks mean a U.S. entry into the war between Israel and Iran and may trigger a larger conflict. Trump said, “Our objective was the destruction of Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity,” warning Tehran to agree to peace or face more attacks. “There will be either peace or tragedy for Iran…”
According to a U.S. official, B-2 bombers dropped more than six 30,000-pound bunker-busting bombs on Fordow and submarines launched 30 missiles targeting nuclear sites at Natanz and Isfahan. The attack came just two days after U.S. officials said Trump would decide within the next two weeks whether to attack or not. Despite hesitation, Trump appears to have taken Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s advice to act against Iran’s nuclear program. Netanyahu praised the strike as “a bold decision that will change history,” saying that Israel lacked the needed weapons required to attack Iran’s underground facilities without U.S. support.
Trump’s involvement shows a reversal from his non-interventionist campaign promises. Though he has resisted long-time military engagements, he appears to have calculated that a swift, high-impact strike could achieve strategic goals without entangling U.S. ground forces. Still, advisers are split: some urged caution, while others focused on limiting fallout after realizing Trump was determined to proceed.
Meanwhile, Iran has vowed revenge. Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei warned that “any U.S. military intervention will undoubtedly be accompanied by irreparable damage.” Iran has many options for response, from direct attacks on America to striking Israel again. Trump made clear he will respond to any Iranian counterattacks with overwhelming force. “ANY RETALIATION BY IRAN AGAINST THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA WILL BE MET WITH FORCE FAR GREATER THAN WHAT WAS WITNESSED TONIGHT,” he wrote in all-caps on Truth Social.
Netanyahu is now closer than ever to achieving a major war aim. Without American intervention, Israel would have continued to degrade Iran’s military infrastructure with conventional strikes—slower and potentially less decisive. With U.S. bunker-busters deployed, Netanyahu may now declare Iran’s nuclear program neutralized—if only temporarily.
The U.S. airstrikes on Iran’s nuclear sites mark a big turning point in the Middle East. President Trump has entered the United States directly into the Iran-Israel conflict, turning a regional war into a much bigger conflict. While the goal of weakening Iran’s nuclear capabilities have been achieved, the long-term consequences are uncertain. Whether this leads to peace or further escalation in the Middle East is now up to Iran.
