Earlier today, Israel fired missiles on the headquarters of Iran’s Quds Force in
Tehran, a part of their military that garners support and builds relationships with other nations. This strike was part of a conflict between them that arose the morning of June 13th, when Israel launched air strikes on Iran’s nuclear weapon forces.
The conflict began last Friday morning, June 13th, when Israel led surprise attacks on Iran’s main military facilities, most notably their nuclear weapon factories. Dubbed “Operation Rising Lion,” this strike was caused by Israeli intelligence finding out that Iran had mined enough uranium to produce its first batch of nuclear missiles.
Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said, “If not stopped, Iran could produce a nuclear weapon in a very short time”.
Immediately following the strikes, Iran sent more than 100 drones toward Israel, most of which were intercepted by their military. Later, they launched over 150 missiles toward Israel’s main cities and military facilities, calling this attack “Operation True Promise 3”. Despite most of these missiles being intercepted by the Israel Air Force, some still hit buildings in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, causing over 60 injuries and one death.
From then on, there have been multiple strikes between the two countries. Since then, at least 24 people have been killed in Israel, while Iran has almost ten times the number of deaths (224 people) from attacks by Israel. Oil infrastructure has also been targeted, which caused oil prices to globally increase by 7%. Israel, Iran, and neighboring countries such as Jordan and Iraq have closed their airspaces and halted all flights to and from them.
