TERRIBLE WILDFIRE TEARS THROUGH FRANCE.
by: Sophia Wang
Thousands of Firefighters are making a huge effort to stop the wildfire from taking over France on August 5.
Officials say that the huge flames could spread for days and days due to high temperatures, firm winds, and dry vegetation. The fire, which started on Tuesday, is located near the border of France’s border with Spain. Residents and tourists have been cleared out of the area and moved to a safer place to stay until the fire has been put out. 2,000 firefighters are still making an effort to stop the raging wildfire.
French President Emmaul Macron promises that the country would do anything to provide help for those who have been affected by the wildfire. He encourages people to be extra careful and cautious in the area where the wildfire spreads. Prime Minister Francois Bayou visited the region and said that this fire is a catastrophe on an unprecedented scale. People claim that this is possibly one of the worst fires to have ever taken place in France in the past 80 years.
Dozens of aircraft pour gallons of water over the heat, hoping that it will at least slow the fire down a bit. Many scientists claim that the Mediterranean region is extremely hot and much drier , increasing the risk of wildfires. People living miles away from the fire can still report the intense heat. 2,500 homes are without electricity within the area of the wildfire. The blaze scorches the land , leaving nothing but a bare black ground with nothing but ashes and death. Even though the fire got under control, it still burned for several days and maybe weeks. Still, the fire has managed to take the life of one resident and injured 11 firefighters as well as 13 people. The damage done to France was unbelievable, but the country is recovering, and hopefully it will soon be back to normal again.
