Israel attacks Iran – What happens next
On June 13th, 2025, Israel launched air strikes at Iranian military and nuclear resources. Iran struck back a few days later by launching drones and missiles at Israel, which escalated tension between the two countries’ already hostile relations.
Israeli officers later stated that Israel had specifically targeted Iran’s nuclear program and attempts to create a nuclear bomb. Iranian military sites, including missile storage and production facilities, were also affected by this attack.
Afterwards, Iran striked struck back and launched over 1000 drones at Israel, according to Israeli military sources. This attack was mostly blocked by the Israeli Airspace, but these drones were only a part of the larger plan.
When the drones flew at the Israeli Airspace, the Airspace’s defenses were activated, and missiles sent by the Airspace were launched at the drones. This left the Israeli Airspace unprotected when Iran launched cruise and ballistic missiles at the airspace because the missiles were launched at the Airspace, and only about 12 minutes after they had launched the drones. Due to a time shortage to reload, some of the missiles sent by Iran managed to break through the Israeli airspace’s Defense system, one of the most highly considered airspace systems in the world.
Some of the projectiles sent by Iran hit civilian areas, resulting in “many casualties and injuries, including the death of multiple high-ranking military officers,” said Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. One of them was Mohammad Hossein, Chief of the General Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces Gen. He coordinated Iran’s armed forces—both the regular army and paramilitary units—and played a central role in shaping the regime’s military doctrine.
Chief of staff of the Iranian armed forces since 2016, Bagheri was killed in an Israeli missile strike on Thursday night. He was “one of the highest-ranking officers in the Iranian military, ranking second only to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and worked in this position for approximately 9 years,” said CNN.
AP News has also reported that “the attacks led to the closure of airspace across the Middle East, stranding tens of thousands of travelers.”
In response to these continuing attacks and consequences that harm innocent people, many countries have united together to discuss how to deal with this situation. This has not been the first time that Israel and Iran have attacked each other, and the leaders of other powerful countries and deciding how they are going to act.
After discussing in a worldwide meeting, the G7 group of countries, in a combined statement, asked for peace and stability in the Middle East. They additionally stated that they are stressed about the protection and safety of civilians and that they support the security of Israel.
Along with these leaders, Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, said in a message meant for Iran that Iran was a threat to “Israel’s very survival” and “should be stopped.”
Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has responded by saying that “Iran will never surrender to Israel” and warned that “any US intervention in the conflict would risk an ‘all-out war’ in the region.”
Earlier, Iran blamed the U.S. for supporting Israel over Iran, but President Trump has disagreed with the accusation, saying that he was aware of Israel’s strikes before they took place, but the US played no part in them.
Sir Keir Starmer, the UK Prime Minister, called for Israel and Iran to show restraint, telling both countries to stay calm and stay controlled but not to prevail. These attacks are getting more and more destructive each day, with more lives being taken.
Soon enough, both sides will run out of materials, and this long-standing going hostile relationship will come to an end, but until then, all we can do is wait and watch as Israel and Iran continue to launch attacks at each other.
