Emergency Hacks for 1,000 Earthquakes in Japan
Japan is a place where natural disasters strike such as earthquakes, because Japan is part of the Ring of Fire, which is a ring of underwater volcanoes so Japanese people always prepare emergency food and find a safe place to hide.
Now you may ask “Why not just use the food in the fridge like normal times?”, but if the building or house runs out of electricity, it’s dangerous to use the fridge or other electronics for food. One of the most popular emergency foods that Japanese people store in their homes is instant ramen because it only needs warm water to cook it and it’s easy to store and eat.
If you were wondering why instant ramen is so popular, it’s because instant ramen has many different flavors like curry, seafood, corn porridge, and beef noodle soup flavor. Japan has over 55,000 convenience stores that sell warm bento (Japanese lunch boxes), rice balls, canned food, and pre-cooked rice packs, so people don’t need to use the microwave to warm them up in order to eat and it’s easy to buy since it’s everywhere.
Some Japanese people even prepare an emergency bag with things that help during an earthquake or other disasters such as bandages if someone’s hurt or bleeding, band-aids for small cuts. Almost all emergency bags have emergency food inside because it’s for if someone is hungry during the disaster and you can’t use any electronics. Flashlights are also a good thing to pack because they help you see in the dark if the lights don’t work during the earthquake.
Earthquakes can happen at any time of the day so Japanese people will always stay tuned to whether an earthquake is coming. That means earthquakes can start during a student’s class time. Before the earthquake happens, students practice what to do if an earthquake strikes so they can be prepared for the earthquake. Teachers will tell the students to hide under the desk to prevent objects from falling on their heads during practice times. Students are also told to keep away from shelves because they are not attached to the wall and there might be a risk that they will fall on someone. As for the people who are walking on the streets, keep away from tall buildings and cliffs because of the chance of falling objects.
Japanese people have always expected the unexpected when a natural disaster comes in like an earthquake. Things like instant ramen or packed fried rice are people’s inventions for an easier time during a natural disaster.
