Movies for little kids usually sell very well. The new Minions movie is an example of this. “Minions: The Rise of Gru” went bananas last weekend with a $108.5 million debut.
All ages can enjoy “Minions 2”. According to PostTrak surveys, 12% of the attendees were under the age of 10. “It’s a tremendous debut,” said Jim Orr, Universal’s president of domestic distribution. “It’s playing very broadly across North America. Every single market is doing extraordinarily well.”
Before Minions came out, the last movie that received this kind of attention was 11 years ago. The record was held by “Transformers: Dark of the Moon” which made $115.9 million in its first four days in 2011. That was only including national shows, while Minions was worldwide.
Tickets are selling quickly with families with younger kids.
