Benjamin Netanyahu Says Israel Plans Total Military Control Over Gaza
Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, said on Thursday that Israel plans to take total military control over Gaza. [1] He has done this, barring any advice about how Israeli hostages and more civilians would be harmed if Israeli military operations were to continue to advance into Gaza.
According to Netanyahu, this includes continued humanitarian aid and the disarmament of Hamas. [2] He also plans to demilitarize the strip, return all hostages living and dead, establish Israeli security control over Gaza, and establish another civilian authority that does not pose a danger to Israel or advocate its destruction.
However, although Israel claims that it wants to ensure Gazans have a good life [2], it seemingly wants all opposition killed off. The Israeli military targeted and successfully killed an Al Jazeera journalist using a drone [4], claiming they were part of Hamas. However, this journalist, Anas al-Sharif, was reportedly found not to have any ties to Hamas. This proves that Israel can lie and kill citizens for almost no reason, other than to silence opposition. Israel, however, claimed that many documents found in the Gaza Strip would provide proof about this journalist who in fact, headed a terrorist cell in Hamas. These documents also supposedly proved that six journalists were integrated with Hamas right inside of Al Jazeera.
This plan for total control will also reverse a 2005 decision made by Israel, where it removed soldiers and citizens from Gaza, but retained control over borders, airspace, and utilities. [3] Israel plans to proceed anyway because their right-wing parties blame Hamas for taking power in the 2006 election.
In conclusion, Netanyahu says that Israel plans to take total military control of Gaza. He says that Israel intends for Gazans to continue living their lives like normal. However, this is not entirely true, given that they killed a journalist and several other colleagues, and a journalist can safely be considered a citizen.
