Monkeypox is a sickness that is now spreading constantly throughout the last couple of weeks. It is most commonly found in Central and West African countries.

Monkeypox was first found in 1858 when two cases very similar to pox diseases occurred. A bunch of monkeys had this sickness, so that is why it is called monkeypox. However, other African animals may catch the virus and infect or pass on this germ on to people. This occurred mostly in Central and West African countries

Monkeypox is a rash that can look like pimples or blisters that appears on the face, inside the mouth, and on other parts of the body, like the hands, feet, chest. The rash goes through different stages before healing completely. The sickness typically lasts 2-4 weeks.

New York Mayor Eric Adams made a state of emergency about Monkeypox on Monday, a move that lets him change things to make an improvement.

At this point it’s always good to have a vaccine. “We will continue to work with our federal partners to secure more doses as soon as they become available,” Adams and Vasan said in the statement. “This outbreak must be met with urgency, action, and resources, both nationally and globally, and this declaration of a public health emergency reflects the seriousness of the moment.”

Monkeypox symptoms are fever, swollen lymph nodes, and muscle aches, and chills.

The majority of infections are in men who have sex with men. Now in New York, there are 1345 cases of Monkeypox. 150,000 people could be at risk of catching monkey pox.

“It’s as if your neighbor’s house is burning and you just close your window and say it’s fine,” says Yap Boum, an epidemiologist in Cameroon

In the future many cases may happen. This pox may cease or it may grow. Hopefully vaccines will help reduce the amount of sick ness.
