MOJANG RELEASES COPPER GOLEM IN MINECRAFT
On July 3rd, 2025, Mojang announced that they would release the Copper Golem in Minecraft, along with a new tier of weapons and equipment.
Mojang originally created the concept of the Copper Golem in the 2021 Minecraft Live Fan vote, where it lost to the Allay. (passive voice, rewrite into active voice) However, four years later, Mojang decided to add the Copper Golem to the game.
The Copper Golem is a mob that assists players sort out their inventories. Like the other golems in the game, the Copper Golem does not spawn naturally, but instead it is summoned by placing a carved pumpkin on a copper block. The golem opens a copper chest and picks up as many items as it can carry and brings them to the players’ normal chests.
Summoning the golem also creates a copper chest. The first time a player can create a chest is by summoning a copper golem. After the player summons the golem, the recipe will be given to the player. The copper chest is not just a normal chest, though. The Copper Golem can open the copper chest and carry its contents with the player. They also organize your materials into neat stacks.
An interesting side feature of these new additions is that they change color. This is a reference to the real-life oxidation of copper. Oxidization is a chemical reaction that happens when copper comes into contact with oxygen. This changed its color from orange to green, which also happens to copper blocks in-game. For example, when you leave a copper block outside, it will slowly change its color from orange to green. In addition, if you place a honeycomb on a copper block, it will cease to oxidize.
In addition, copper will be introduced as a new equipment tier. According to Senior Gameplay Engineer Eric Grimsborn, “We haven’t added a new tool and armour tier since the Nether update, so this is a really big and exciting thing.”
This new tier will sit between stone and iron, allowing new players to transition more easily between the two. The upgrade will allow players to mine more efficiently than those with stone, but will not allow them to mine special ores like an iron upgrade . Since copper is a lot easier to find than iron, it will become the perfect early game material.
The reinvention of the Copper Golem leaves players hopeful about new content to come. Future updates might introduce new mobs that were once suggested in earlier updates.
You can test these new features by enabling previews or beta on Minecraft: Bedrock Edition.
