Diego Maradona, one of the greatest footballers of all time and the former captain of Argentina’s national soccer team, died of a heart attack in November of 2020 in Buenos Aires.

Not long after his passing, government attorneys started an investigation into his death. Prosecutors will hold a trial to determine whether Maradona’s nurses and doctors may have caused his demise, whether intentionally or unintentionally.

The prosecutors stated that the medical staff caring for Maradona acted inattentively while caring for him. Government attorneys speculated that, if Maradona had received care from a more satisfactory medical staff, the former football star could possibly have survived.

Leopoldo Luque, Maradona’s private doctor, along with the former athlete’s neurosurgeon, a psychiatrist, a psychologist, two doctors, two nurses, and their boss were accused, but all of them claimed they had no part in causing Maradona’s death. His private doctor, Dr. Luque, said that he did all he could do to save Maradona’s life; the physician also claimed that he had extended Maradona’s life. If any of the defendants are found guilty, one or more of them could go to jail for up to 25 years.

One of the world’s greatest soccer players, Diego Maradona was Argentina’s captain when the team won the 1986 World Cup. However, Maradona had a hard time during his later years.

He was addicted to cocaine and was banned from football because of it. Medical problems from cocaine use were probably a major contributor in his death. Since Maradona was a football legend in Argentina, many Argentinian soccer fans deeply mourn his death. Because of their love and respect for Maradona, the public demanded to know whether the negligent medical treatment he received may have caused his death at a relatively young age. The trial could provide answers about the real reasons for Maradona’s demise.
