Recently Liz Cambage, a W.N.B.A player said that she will be having a “divorce” with the Los Angeles Sparks after saying the team is “where I want to be.”
Australian, Liz Cambage who is 6’ 8”, scored an average of 13 points this season along with 6.4 rebounds and 1.6 assists, she also still has the record for most points scored in a single game, 53 points. But on Thursday the Los Angeles Sparks and Cambage declared a “divorce” right after she joined.
People don’t know what happened, even the team’s interim coach Fred Williams didn’t figure it out. Fred said, “It was a surprise — I didn’t know what really escalated it,” “A lot of it could have been things off the court, off floor, who knows. Having conversations with her afterward, it just felt it was good for her personally to make that move. All we can do as an organization is support that and her decisions and just move on.” But to support his team he said, “it’s a new day, new atmosphere, for us in this gym.”
Cambage has changed teams in the W.N.B.A three times in the period of 5 years. She said she would never play for her home country again and she has “0” interest in playing again. In one of Cambage’s games she was also accused of using racial slurs.
In 2019 Cambage was playing for the Los Vegas Aces, but this was before she lived in Dallas. In 2020 she sat out for 1 year because of Covid. With the Aces, Cambage and her team made semifinals in 2019 and 2021. Cambage later left the team in late 2021 after she criticized the Aces for hiring a new head coach.
After Cambage recovered from covid she had the second lowest scorer in the Sparks. So she went to David Fisher, a former N.B.A player and the general manager. Fisher was later fired and replaced by Williams, Cambages coach in Dallas.
Cambage has been jumping back and forth in teams, so William said, “I think she has room right now to check the temperature of herself.”
