It was July 13, 2022, and Liverpool had come back to Bangkok. Hundreds of fans crowded around to greet them. Some even had to wait six hours until the squad came exited their airplane. Two hours before their flight was due, hundreds were already waiting outside the airport. When the squad exited and was ready to go into town, their supporters had lined up on the streets. Some fans were 50 yards away and couldn’t even get a glimpse of their “squad heroes.”

30 minutes later, Liverpool’s manager, Jurgen Klopp, and vice-captain James Milner had welcomed their Thai supporters. The barrier that was supposed to keep them apart from the crowd was ignored.

“I have never been to a press conference like this,” Klopp said.
