Travelers return to the airports begging to get out of the house, but only to find that their flights are canceled. Around 28.8 percent of all flights were expected to be canceled according to Flight Aware. The reason for all this is that there are huge staffing shortages, and they can’t keep up with the demand. They tried to raise prices, but that didn’t work. So, they started canceling flight after flight. The average price from DC to London was raised $233 in 2019 to $1,159 in July 2022.

Many Airlines executives blamed the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) for understaffing their air trafficking controller. The reason why the airlines are mad about air trafficking is because, without enough air traffickers, flights pile up. The FAA needs to slow to a pace where they can control air trafficking, but this delays and cancels flights. The FAA responded to this outcry by enforcing the airlines to give refunds. The Transportation Secretary himself claimed a $112 refund from his canceled flight.

These rising prices and flight cancellations are predicted to stop when school and work kick in again when airlines can start looking to hire more pilots and reduce schedules. When this time comes, people can start traveling again at normal costs and not as many delays and cancellations. Though this is great, pilots may not apply for these jobs because Covid is still here and not a lot of people are aware of that. Because of this, there may be another surge of Covid. This is a sign that the pandemic is coming to a close, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t there anymore and this may cost us.
