As the title says there was a robbery at the exact museum in 1911 when museum worker snuck overnight to steal the Mona Lisa. The robber was called Vincenzo Peruggiaage. He hid in a storage drawer and waited until Monday morning to take the famous painting. He hid it under his coat and walked out with no interceptions.
The police had a lot of questions for Pablo Picasso, because his
connection as an art thief was matched with Vincenzo Peruggiaage.
It was after two years that Vincenzo was caught trying to sell the painting to an Italian art dealer. In over a year, Italians saw him as a hero because they said that he was responsible for reclaiming the painting, and he felt that it was wrong that he had stolen it.
Many people said that he should serve a small amount of prison, and his trial said that he will only serve one year of prison. After the news came out, it made the Mona Lisa famous than ever.
Comparing the thieves
The thief who stole the Mona Lisa was trustworthy, but the robbers were not because they did not return the jewels yet to the museum.
