As many people know Israel and Iran’s fighting has escalated significantly in 2025 because of military attacks, and just recently on Friday, Israel pulled the trigger by releasing military strikes on Iran. The two countries have continued to carry out strikes ever since. to discuss what to do about the conflict between Israel and Iran.
Israel and Iran are countries in the Middle East, with Israel having a coastline of the Mediterranean Sea, while Iran borders many countries, including Afghanistan in the east and Iraq in the west. In 1948, Israel was created as a homeland for Jewish people, following World War Two and the Holocaust. On the other hand, in Iran, many people follow the Shia interpretation of Islam, where religious leaders have a big say in society, which includes leading the country.
Several reasons explain why Israel has been carrying out attacks. Israel’s prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said the military strikes targeted Iran’s attempts to build a nuclear bomb. He said that Iran was a threat to “Israel’s very survival”. Israel’s military says that after the Israeli strikes, Iran launched hundreds of drones at Israel.
After Israel’s attack, Iran retaliated and asked other countries to criticise Israel. UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer asked for Israel and Iran to show restraint, meaning to stay calm and keep control. Iran has also blamed the USA for supporting Israel’s attack. of the strikes, but said the US played no part in them and did not want to take sides or participate.
World leaders from a group of countries called the G7—which includes the UK, US and Canada—are meeting later today, and will be discussing the conflict.
