Island Games of 2025
This sports event takes place every 2 years, lasting about a week. The event also hosts 24 island groups around the globe, and has them compete for medals across 12 different sports.
About 2000 competitors and thousands of visitors will be attending the event.
Now, over the many years, the games have been hosted by the Faroe Islands, Áland, the Isle of Wight, Gibraltar, Jersey, and Guernsey. The original goal was to bring together smaller islands across the globe.
The event will be opened on Saturday, July 12th, by Princess Anne in Kirkwell and close on Friday, July 18th.
The games are open to competitors aged 13 or above. This year the sports list is composed of archery, athletics, badminton, bowls, cycling, football, golf, gymnastics, sailing, squash, swimming, and the triathlon.
This year, the Faroe Islands won the most medals. 41 gold, 31 silver, and 23 bronze. The next games of 2027 shall be hosted by the Faroe Islands.
