Iga Swiatek Beats Amanda Anisimova at Wimbledon Final
On Saturday, with a score of 6-0, Iga Świątek secured a win against Amanda Anisimova in the Wimbledon Women’s final. Throughout the game, Anisimova failed to execute her fundamental skill properly and was extremely outplayed by Świątek.
Anisimova had won only 9 points to Świątek’s 27, tripled Anisimova’s score. Fundamental skills, such as her backhand and serves, were extremely flawed as the game proceeded. as Świątek was not missing a single shot on the other side of the net. As for her serves, which are swings where the opponent cannot counter or return, Matthew Futterman and Charlie Eccleshare share in their The New York Times article how, “She made just 33 percent of her first serves”, and “kept catching her toss,” reflecting Anisimova’s gradual movement towards defeat.
Świątek has won six Grand Slam titles, but this is her first ever Wimbledon title. Now, becoming the number one player in the WTA women’s singles after Serena Williams.
On PFSN, records Świątek’s coach, Wim Fissette’s, remarks after Świątek’s victory: “‘I’m really, really happy to have won Wimbledon with Iga”, and “I am really proud of her. How she developed herself in the last weeks, how she adjusted to the grass court, how she improved match by match, and how focused she stayed during the tournament.’”
Although it is evident that Anisimova has fallen immensely behind while playing against Świątek, there are still skill and milestone differences. Świątek had won 5 Grand Slam titles before competing again this year: the 2020 French Open, the 2022 French Open, the 2022 US Open, the 2023 French Open, the 2024 French Open, and now the 2025 Wimbledon Open. On the other hand, Anisimova had never even won a single Grand Slam title.
