There is something special about the greetings that England’s teams get when they visit their fans in the east. Hundreds of fans greeted the Liverpool team arrived in Bangkok, and Jurgen Klopp, the Liverpool manager could not help but make a comparison, “was it like this yesterday when Manchester United came?” he asked.
Some fans even waited up to six hours for their arrival. And Two hours before the team’s flight landed, there were hundreds of adoring fans waiting at the airport. And by the time Klopp and his team were driving into the city, there were well over 1000 fans waiting.
One lucky fan had his jersey signed by a number of players on the team. Another fan, 19-year-old Thammanoon Sanjangreed also said seeing the players was amazing. “I saw Virgil Van Dijk, Oxlade-Chamberlain, and Adrian up close because he was getting into the van in front of me… (it’s) better than spending money on tickets because I can get up close,” he said.
Some people were 50 yards away, while others were close enough to wave Liverpool off. Half an hour before, Klopp and his players honored their Thai hosts in the traditional welcome ceremony. Vice-captain James Milner also spoke about the ‘energy’ of the fans.
The barrier for the media to stand behind was ignored, and there was no hope for an orderly interview, which was when Klopp asked the question.
The Liverpool team was extremely happy about the exuberant welcome, “thank you for the really warm welcome. It is only my second time in Thailand, the first was an hour on the way to Sydney. Hopefully, I get time to spend in the city this time,” Klopp said. The team also posted on Twitter, saying “what a welcome!”
