Have you ever imagined earning over 30 million dollars in just a year? If you have imagined this seemingly impossible feat, you might be interested to know that in recent news General Manager Brian Cashman of the Yankees offered to pay Aaron Judge $30.5 million a year for seven years. However, Judge asked for more; $360 million for 10 years. I don’t think that either 30.5 or 36 million make ANY sense at all. Paying so much money to Judge will attract people to focus on sports and entertainment than education. We need to spend more money on educational purposes.

In Texas, schools are funded based on the number of students enrolled and the daily attendance on campus. Currently, public schools receive a base allotment of $6,160 per student each year. For example, Rockenbaugh Elementry school in Southlake, Texas has roughly 400 students, meaning it receives a little less than $2.5 million per year. If you compare that to at least $30 million a year that Aaron Judge is being paid, doesn’t it seem like he’s getting paid a little too much?

Americans really like sports. But over the years, It may have gotten carried away. The intuition of St.Mark’s (one of the best private schools in America) is about $30,000 and there are around 800 students. The schools annual revenue is $24 million, which is 6 million less than $30 million that Judge is getting, 12 million if he gets the $36 million he wants! You can see Americans are more willing to pay more to sports.

Some people think that sports deserve this extra attention, and that Aaron Judge should get $30 million or so. Sports should get attention, but that’s enough. When we have the problem of the lack of willingness to be educated, education should get more consideration.

We can still change the situation. For Americans, our problem isn’t bad education; it’s our unwillingness to be taught. We could totally solve this by giving more effort into education instead of spending so much money for sports.
