For the past few days, Kansas has been experiencing constant flooding. Firefighters and the National Guard have rescued hundreds of people caught in natural disasters.
Ayear ago, Bremen, Kentucky, was hit by “one of the worst tornadoes in history” (Kelley 1). The mayor of Hindman from the eastern part of Kentucky went to help. When the small town sustained the worst damage during this week’s floods, the mayor of Breman immediately began shipping over trucks full of supplies to ensure the town’s recovery.
“You were here in December and helped us,’” Mayor Allen Miller of Bremen said to the mayor of Hindman. “Now it’s time for me to return the favor.”
However, the e floods this week have posed a difficult challenge to the community of Kansas. On Saturday, at least 25 people perished in the floods. Experts say that the damage from the floods can take weeks to be repaired, and it will take even longer for everything to settle down.
“I wish I could tell you why we keep getting hit here in Kentucky,” Gov. Andy Beshear told journalists after a briefing on the rising death toll. These include the ice storm that cut off electricity for 150,000 people, the December tornadoes that devastated at least 200 miles of land, and the flash flood last July.
Despite the floods, the community has been trying its best to clean up and rebuild their town. “I can’t give you the why, but I know what we do in response to it. And the answer is everything we can” said the governor.
