I just came back from my trip to San Diego. There, SeaWorld is one of the many attractions we went to. There, some rides like thrilling roller coasters and soaking water rides are obviously present, but they also have some shows of trained water animals. During the orca show, we didn’t know that we would be soaked.

When we picked our seat, my mom suggested that we should sit in the front to watch the orcas, since at the dolphin show, we sat really far up. It was very hard to see the dolphins and what they were doing. The wet zone for the orca show was ten rows of seats. I thought we should sit just outside the wet zone, but my mom wanted to sit even closer, inside the wet zone, on the fourth row.

My dad advised me to eat dinner before the show, but my eyes were glued to the trivia screen. It asked many questions related to the seas, orcas, and SeaWorld. One of the things I learned from the trivia show was that orcas were actually the scientific name for the killer whale. I don’t know how, but I somehow managed to eat everything before the show started.

The orcas were showing everyone what they do out in the wild. The screen for the trivia started pointing out some features of the orca. I remember very clearly that orcas have a white belly and black back to camouflage. Looking down, the black blends in with the dark water. Looking up, the white blends in with the bright skies. Everything was going fine until…

Splash! Apparently, orcas hit their tails against the water a lot. The orca had slapped its tail against the water, and sprayed water all over us. I was mostly fine with the water, and just a little annoyed that I just dried off from the splash mountain ride that my mom and I went on round 30 minutes ago. However, while I was fine, my little brother Nathan wasn’t. He started saying stuff like “no” and “stop”. A person behind us used his bubble gun to try to calm Nathan down, and it worked a little bit. My mom decided that every time the orcas would splash, she would use her jacket to cover Nathan and stop the splash. He was still really scared, even though he stopped crying.

Getting splashed by the orcas wasn’t the most fun experience, but at least we were able to clearly see the orcas. I really liked SeaWorld and San Diego in general, so I think you should try it out.
