About 13,200 years ago, there was a mastodon named Fred, who is a distant relative to the elephants. Josh Miller, a paleoecologist named him.

Fred was born somewhere in the Midwestern United States, and he spent most of his early days there. When he got older, he left his family and roamed the plains of Indiana. When it was summer, he fought with other males for a mate. The fights were very violent. One summer, one of the fights brought Fred to an end, and he died at the age of 34.

His skeleton is now in the Indiana State Museum.
