Extracurriculars are very important in a child’s life because children that participate in these activities are happier and in better physical condition than children who don’t. Research shows that if a person doesn’t participate in such activities and is glued to their TV, they are more likely not to be in their best mental or physical health.

Participating in after-school activities can help students even help students excel in school. Some examples of extracurricular activities are sports, the arts, and hobbies. They offer students the opportunity to have their friends to play with while learning a new subject and help the mind become flexible, all while having fun.

Researchers established that when children spend time on social media their mental health becomes worse than children who participate in after-school activities because they become active and interact with others.

University of Australia (UniSA) researcher Dr. Rosa Virgara says that “Our study highlights how some out-of-school activities can boost children’s wellbeing, while others – particularly screens – can chip away at their mental and physical health.”

Parents should encourage their kids to stay away from TV, mobile devices, and computers and focus on how to keep their kids active and explore different skills. It would be best if the skill involved interacting with others.

No matter what type of extracurricular events students participate in, it is important that they interact with different people. Interaction-heavy activities mostly build communication and teamwork skills. When kids grow older they can use those skills to help with projects and when getting a part-time job.
