As the players of Liverpool arrive at the airport, the spotlight shines on them right when they step foot into Thailand. They are surrounded and greeted by over a thousand fans.
On July 10th, 2022, the intensity of adrenaline and cheers emitted by the supporters of the Liverpool Football Club only grew louder as the team’s players arrived at Thailand’s Bangkok Airport in the morning.
Liverpool landed in Thailand on July 10th, one day after their biggest Premier League rivals, Manchester United. The two teams played each other on July 12th, two days later, before Manchester United traveled to Australia to compete in more pre-season matches.
Some fans waited for more than six hours for Liverpool to arrive, so they could catch a glimpse of the famously skilled team. Even when there were still two hours remaining before Liverpool’s flight arrived in Thailand, there were already hundreds of fans waiting for the team.
Even those who were 50 yards away from the players couldn’t catch a glimpse of their idols. However, many others waited in the central reservation to wave the players off, sending them a noisy but supportive good luck on their game.
The scene soon turned from orderly to chaotic as three seats were arranged to seat former player and current manager of the team Jürgen Klopp, skipper Jordan Henderson, and vice-captain James Milner. A barrier was set up for the media to stay behind but was ignored, and the officials tried desperately to clear a space for questions to be asked. However, they had no success, prompting Klopp to ask, “Was it like this yesterday when Manchester United came?”
Klopp also thanked the supporters for their encouragement saying, “Thank you for the really warm welcome. It is only my second time in Thailand, the first was an hour on the way to Sydney. Hopefully I get time to spend in the city this time.”
During the press conference, Milner emphasized the energy of the fans affected them a lot while Klopp firmly stated that there is no friendly rivalry between Liverpool and Manchester United, furthering the competition between the two opponents.
The fan’s support gave each team a boost and motivation to perform the best they could during the game. The heightened rivalry between the two clubs brought an action-packed game with fans from both sides rooting for their preferred team.
