The world’s richest person, Elon Musk, decided to buy Twitter in April, but Twitter didn’t provide him with enough information on the number of spam and fake accounts. “The Twitter Board is committed to closing the transaction on the price and terms agreed upon with Mr. Musk,” Bret Taylor, an American computer programmer, wrote in a Tweet.
The original merger agreement includes $1bn to stop fake accounts.
In May, Elon Musk said the deal was “temporarily on hold.”
The “billionaire businessman” asked for evidence that the amount of spam and bot accounts is less than 5 percent of total users.
Elon Musk’s lawyer said Twitter had either failed or rejected the request to provide this information. “Sometimes Twitter has ignored Mr. Musk’s requests, sometimes it has rejected them for reasons that appear to be unjustified, and sometimes it has claimed to comply while giving Mr. Musk incomplete or unusable information.” Elon Musk has been trying to get information about how many daily active users Twitter has had for weeks. Twitter has a problem with bots, so a million spam accounts or bots have been removed. Twitter kept on refusing to tell Elon Musk the number of bots there are, so he might cancel the deal for buying Twitter.
