Scientists discover strongest evidence so far of life on faraway planet
Many wonder the same question: Is There life beyond our Earth and solar system? Well, scientists, astronomers, and astronauts have tried to solve this question. Now these space professionals have found more positive and exciting evidence of a distant planet orbiting another star possible to a home of life! A distant planet orbiting another star is typically called an exoplanet
Researchers from the University of Cambridge found signs of chemicals on the exoplanet K2-18b using NASA’s James Webb Telescope which is said to be the most powerful and largest space telescope ever built. Planet K2-18B is 124 light years away (around 744 trillion miles). The gasses and chemicals that have been discovered, which are decomposers, nutrient recyclers, and even beneficial components of the human microbiome.
However, the researchers and scientists need more evidence and data to prove it, if they do it could mean the planet is home to alien life. Lead researcher Professor Nikku Madhusudhan, from the university’s Institute of Astronomy, said the exploration gets humanity closer to showing we are not alone in the universe. “If we confirm that there is life on K2-18b it should basically confirm that life is very common in the galaxy,” he told the BBC.
Researcher Madhusudhan said the amount of gas found in a single observation window was a good sign. Now the team wants to research and check if the gases that they discovered produced by specific living organisms, may be by some other living organisms.
