Is it Better to Read a Book or Watch The Movie?
Many people debate whether the book or the movie is better. While both offer benefits, I believe that one is clearly better than the other, and that would be the book. There are some parts of books that can simply not be replicated in the movie, creating more depth and meaning. The book is better than the movie because it is more detailed, improves imagination, and is more affordable.
First, the book is better than the movie because it is more detailed. In books, the author can narrate what a character is thinking or feeling at the moment. In a movie, it is hard to express thoughts and feelings purely by acting. I have read books and watched their movie counterparts, and the movies are good. However, the books the movies are based on are better by a landslide. I find the movies to be lacking the emotional depth that the book has.
Second, the book is better than the movie because it improves imagination. Some books do detail what characters look like, and some don’t. Even with a description, readers have to use their imagination to visualize the character. When you are watching a movie, there is no need to visualize the character, and sometimes the movie characters don’t match the description in the book, although that is understandable. Nevertheless, books encourage imagination, something that is not possible in movies.
Lastly, books are more affordable than movies. If you buy a book, you could read it as many times as you like. However, if you go watch a movie, you only get to see it once, and have to pay perhaps even more than the book. That being said, if it is available for free online, it is more affordable, although this is usually not the case.
To conclude, the book is better than the movie because of detail, imagination, and affordability. While some movies are arguably better than the book, due to the movie being more concise, I would say that when trying to find a good way to spend time, the book is the way to go.
