My Summer Break
During the summer break, I went to so many amazing places with my family. I went to Yellowstone National Park because we heard that it was very fun.
On June 29, we had to wake up early at 2:00 AM to catch the plane. After we departed, we arrived at Salt Lake City at 8:00 AM. We rented a car at the airport and went to a store to buy some essentials like food and water. After buying groceries, we went to a hotel to rest. The day was boring, so I wasn’t that excited.
On July 1, we went to Old Faithful, a geyser that launches water into the air. When erupting, it can send water 185 feet into the air! Touching the water is fatal since it is boiling. The water it launches is heated up by the Earth’s mantle and is above 90˚C. If anyone was to fall into the hot boiling water, they would most likely die from it.
Another place that looked amazing is Grand Prismatic Spring. It looks like a lake but near the outside of the lake, it’s orange. The closer you get to the inside, it slowly turns into a dark shade of blue. It’s just like a rainbow lake. The orange is caused by bacteria that lives in very hot places. It lives in places that are between 113˚F and 149˚F.
Before we went to our next station, we saw a bison right in front of our hotel. We took many pictures and headed to Antelope Island. It was amusing over there. We saw a lot of amazing animals. In total we saw a lot of bison, five antelopes, and even a bear.
On the third to the last day, we went on a boat. There were so many flies at the edge of the docks. There were even twenty of them in the boat I sat in, and they get very active when something stinky came nearby. Sulfur is a mineral that smelled like rotten eggs. When we passed a mountain of sulfur all the flies started to get very excited. Flies are attracted to stinky or “bad” smells because those smells often indicate a source of food or a place for them to lay their eggs.
On the last day, we went to an amazing artifact museum. It had a section that explained things about the ice age and what creatures lived in the ice age. I saw a giant statue of a wooly mammoth. That part of an ice fishing hut with real fishing rod and a stove. There were two glass holes. They had screens under them and it looked like a fish swimming in the water.
Going to Yellowstone National Park is so fun. I wish I could go there again next summer break.
