The fight for the last sugar-sprinkled brownie

There once were two siblings, Marinette, the older sister, and Conner, the younger brother. They lived in a nice small house around the block of a small neighborhood. They also had a golden retriever called Goldilocks, and she was mostly given the role of keeping the two kids from fighting.
Now, Marinette and Conner usually got along, like playing video games together like Minecraft, playing pranks on April Fools Day, and teaming up against their mom for no candy on weekdays. But, everything was going well until a Saturday morning.
This was about the last sugar-sprinkled brownie.
Both kids decided on Friday night that they would have that delicious sugar-sprinkled brownie for breakfast tomorrow, Marinette craving it with a glass of milk, while Conner craved it with a glass of orange juice.
The next day, Marinette came down the stairs to the kitchen ready to put her hands on the brownie and pour herself a tall glass of milk, but her jaw dropped when she saw Conner opening his mouth wide, ready to swallow that brownie whole.
Marinette yelled, “WHAT ARE YOU DOING!”
Conner grinned widely: “Sorry sis, I claimed it.”
“Wait, don’t eat it. How about this, let’s split it.”
Nahh, sis I’m good.” He opened his mouth again to swallow it.
“I’ll let you pick the Saturday day movie!”
Tempting, but no.
“Fine, the Saturday movie, and 2 kitkats.”
Conner started to think. Marinette said, “Going on one, going on two, going on thr-” “Fine, you got yourself a deal!”
, happily ever after.
Wonderful drama and tension. Spend some time looking at how to organize direct speech in a story: https://racheljrowlands.com/2024/04/15/how-to-punctuate-and-format-dialogue-in-your-novel/
