The Gift of Where We Are
We live in a place
Where there is no war to face,
Where there is no need to worry
About getting caught by the Nazis.
We live in a place
Full of happiness,
Kindness,
Bravery.
We live in a place,
Where our children
Are not forced to go to war
Against their will.
We open textbooks,
Workbooks,
Library books
While others on this planet
Might not even have a place
To stay.
We laugh,
We tease,
We play,
Each day without needing to worry
About our hopes being lost in the dark.
We live in a place
Where everyone tries
To lend each other a hand.
We live in a place
Where everyone can stand,
Where everyone can have a voice,
Where everything is a gift.
We go to churches
Where we can believe
In whatever religion we favor.
Hoping for good luck,
While other on this planet
Maybe hoping to survive.
We live in a place
Where we are free to
Grow,
Learn,
Believe,
And live a happy life.
We walk on the streets,
Free to wear whichever clothes we want.
Not needing to wear anything
That we don’t believe in
We live in a place,
Where girls can play sports,
Where girls don’t have to wear dresses,
Where girls can go to school,
Own a house,
Go to work,
Do what they want to do.
We need to appreciate everything we have,
To not take everything for granted,
What our parents have given us,
And the gifts we have.
The food we have.
The school we can go to.
The family that led us here,
To freedom.
