Even though I have many ideas for career choices, my top choice would most likely be to become a botanist.
Botanists are scientists who study plants in many areas.
Most of the areas are these following things: plant identification and classification, (recognizing and categorizing plants, compare and contrast,) plant physiology and biochemistry, (studying plants processes,) plant ecology and environmental interactions, (investigating how plants work with the environment and other organisms,) conservation and environmental management, (protecting species and managing natural areas), and some more.
I realized that being a botanist was fit for me about a year ago, when my grade went on a camping trip to a nearby redwood forest. There I met a naturalist (someone who studies the natural world and often guides people, including education) who shared my love for plants, and we discussed plenty of the topic. He was the one who found my talent in plant recognition, and I expanded my research after that trip. From there on, I had my heart set on the goal of becoming a botanist.
Even though being a botanist pays decently, unless you have a high degree like a PhD and may get more money, my decision was really based on my interest in plants and nature. Mainly, being around plants makes me happy, but doing additional things to plants makes the time more worthwhile. Things that I may do that are related to plants are conducting research on them, usually reading books or online research, but sometimes observing them (taking a walk outside or simply just looking at my houseplants.)Taking care of the plants in my environment (basic plant care, but also some additional things), and being a plant activist. (Basically, someone who acts as a plant advisor, like giving important advice.) I also really appreciate gardening, since it gives me time alone with myself and plants.
Sometimes practicing things like that on an everyday basis can help make a sturdy foundation to plant biology, and create a gateway to more things in the world. With an expertise on plants, I’m a keen forager who can recognize many plant species (whether it’s a houseplant or a wild-grown plant), and a person you can rely on to give plant facts and help take care of them. I sometimes play a game by myself where, whenever I take a walk, I try to name as many plant species as possible.
I may already be a botanist at heart.
