Coco Gauff wins French Open
On June 7th, 2025, at Roland Garros, . After a bitter defeat to Polish tennis player Iga Swiatek in the 2022 French Open finals, Gauff vowed to come back stronger and better against the world number 1: Arnya Sabalenka in the 2025 French Open Finals.
Winning the 2023 US Open was the first step, followed by beating the world number one, Aryna Sabalenka, to win the French Open. At only 21 years old, Coco is inspiring young people to chase their dreams.
Gauff looked Looking back on her 2022 loss, Gauff said, , wondering if I would ever be able to circumnavigate it, especially my mentality going into that match... I just felt ready today.”
Right after Gauff beat Sabalenka to win the 2025 French Open, Gauff took out a notebook, and on a page, she wrote “I will win French Open 2025” as many times as she could. On the night before the final, Gauff was on TikTok and saw Gabby Thomas, an Olympic sprinter doing the same before winning the Olympics.
The French Open final tested Gauff’s mentality. With her weak second serves and forehand being weak, there was self-doubt she doubted whether she could overcome the odds. But then, during the French Open final, she fought back from 4-1 down to leave the first set very even. In the next two sets, Sabalenka became frustrated at Gauff’s sudden improvement.
When Guaff first started playing professional tennis at 15 years old, she had some problems. With the help of her coach, Jean Christopher Faurel, she improved her serve and learned to play more aggressively when she could. Faurel says, “She’s not a machine. It’s also partly our fault – there were moments when we probably didn’t do the right things.” He adds, “Now everything is clear in her mind, and that’s why she’s winning a lot of matches.” The 21-year-old is sure to win some big titles for herself.
