Ne Zha 2 Movie Review
Many movies are produced by well-known companies, such as Disney, but lesser known producers have been making waves. For example, Ne Zha 2, a Chinese movie and the sequel of Ne Zha, has been doing extremely well in sales. The 2025 movie grossed over $2 billion in box office sales, making it the 5th-highest-grossing movie of all time, and the highest-grossing animated movie of all time.
The movie follows a three-year-old child named Ne Zha, as the movie title suggests. It starts by picking up from the prequel, Ne Zha, where his friend Ao Bing and him survive an encounter with godly lightning. They are on a quest to reconstruct their physical bodies, as said physical bodies were destroyed during the lightning storm. They are forced to combine bodies because Ao Bing accidentally destroyed his. They must pass three trials from the gods, with many plot twists incorporated into the story.
While this movie is based on the Chinese mythical character Ne Zha, there are several key differences. In the original myth, Ne Zha and Ao Bing fight each other, ultimately leading to Ao Bing’s death. In the movie, as previously mentioned, they are best friends and Ao Bing stays alive. The movies Ne Zha and Ne Zha 2 don’t follow the original myth’s storyline. Most of the scenes in the movie did not actually happen in the Chinese myths.
Ne Zha 2 has also become well-known for its amazing visuals and stunning fight scenes. Many people who have watched recommend watching on an IMAX, to fully enjoy the advanced graphics. However, combat does take up much of the movie, although they are balanced out by emotional and funny scenes. Some say that the said funny scenes are childish, but they do not have much influence over the overall plot of the movie.
Overall, I would recommend this movie. It is really a great movie with stunning graphics and smooth animation. The movie is a little long, with lots of plot buildup, but I’d say that it is worth it to stay the entire movie. While the movie is in Chinese, there are English subtitles so that everyone can enjoy it. Ne Zha 2 blends Chinese mythology, comedy, tragedy, and character development into scenes that fit perfectly with each other.
