Kpop Demon Hunters: My New Obsession
At first I was hesitant to watch KPop Demon Hunters. I kept seeing Youtube shorts of it all over my feed, but since I’m not really into KPop, I didn’t think it was for me. After a couple hundred clips, I finally gave in and watched the movie—and I’m so glad I did. This movie really exceeded my expectations and has quickly become one of my favorites.
KPop Demon Hunters follows Hunter/x, a KPop girl group that secretly protects the world from demons who steal human souls to bring to their king, Gwi-Ma. Rumi, Mira, and Zoey use their music to seal a magical barrier called the Honmoon, so demons will be banished forever. However, Gwi-Ma has a plan of his own. He decides to send a rival Kpop boy group called the Saja Boys, to steal Hunter/x’s fans and stop them from sealing the Honmoon.
One of the best parts of the film is its soundtrack. I have listened to the soundtrack at least 10 times already. I wish I could tell you I’m joking, but no, that’s just how awesome the soundtrack is. Every song is absolutely amazing and fully captures the emotions and energy of each scene. The lyrics are very unique and hide secret meanings about the movie and plot.
For example, “Soda Pop” is a catchy and bubbly song and has gone extremely viral. Even more viral, “Golden” has passed BTS and Blackpink in Spotify records. Many have even tried to sing covers and hit the high notes on social media, and even dance to it.
The animation was one of my absolute favorites. It was incredibly impressive, and I loved how they added the tiniest of details that pulled the movie together. I loved how they added anime-style faces in the beginning of the movie, as it was hilarious.
My only complaint would be that they only focused on Rumi and Jinu’s relationship, and Mira, Zoey, and the rest of the Saja Boys were just there. It’s almost like they were just part of the background or there for comedic relief. In songs, Rumi and Jinu had most of the lines, while the rest of the characters each had one line per song.
Overall, I really loved KPop Demon Hunters. It was something different, and I loved how unique it was. Although I do wish there was more depth to the characters, I truly loved every second of the film. The soundtrack, animation, and characters were all amazing, and I highly recommend watching Kpop Demon Hunters.
