Disney’s Live-Action “Lilo & Stitch” is Full of Humor and Heart
Cindy Pu
On Memorial Day, Walt Disney’s live action “Lilo & Stitch” released, a reimagined version of their 2002 classic animated version. It’s an emotional and humorous movie about Lilo, a girl from Hawaii who finds it difficult to make friends and stay out of trouble, who meets Stitch, a mischievous little blue alien who crash lands onto Earth.
The movie was directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and made $37 million on Memorial Day alone. It stars Maia Kealoha as Lilo and Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as her big sister Nani. The characters Lilo and Nani share an unbreakable bond as siblings in the film, since their parents have passed away.
Stitch is one of the most beloved and adorable characters of Disney. He has the spirit of a big troublemaker, but also has a lot of sweetness in him, making him loveable among audiences. Many in the audience both laugh and cry throughout the movie during scenes including Stitch. Stitch is also one of the biggest brands from Disney. His cute character is printed on clothing, gifted as presents, and made as relatable toys for everyone to enjoy.
The live-action movie brings together the themes of community, culture, humor, and emotion all in one film. Bringing the movie to life and taking the audience straight to Hawaii.
One of the most popular songs among all the music from the film is “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride” from the beach scene in the film. It’s a song sung with a mix of English and the Hawaiian language, with the sounds of a ukulele in the background. It really makes you feel like you’re on the beach in Hawaii, while also including the Hawaiian culture in the film.
One of the most iconic lines from both of the “Lilo & Stitch” movies is “Ohana means family. Family means no one gets left behind or forgotten.” This quote really brings out the meaning of family and how family should always stick together no matter what. The 2025 “Lilo & Stitch” film is a great way to kick off your summer and share a good laugh or cry with friends and family.
