The Rocking News Of Gaza Ceasefire Brings Relief, but Challenges Remain
After more than two years of conflict, Israel and Hamas have agreed, along with President Donald Trump, to a ceasefire on October 14, 2025. Both sides have already halted fighting, which allowed the exchange of hostages and prisoners, and allowed resources to enter Gaza.
The agreement, which was announced on September 28 by President Donald Trump of the United States of America. This was a peace plan that was developed with Qatar, Turkey, and Egypt. On October 9, both Israel and Hamas agreed to an immediate ceasefire and release their captives. Since this negotiation, Hamas has freed 20 hostages (Hamas only had around 250 hostages in total), while Israel has released almost 2000 Palestinian prisoners.
The war began on October 7, 2022, when Hamas made a devastating attack on Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking around 250 hostages. In response, Israel launched an extensive which left large areas of destruction. According to reports, more than 67,500 Palestinians were killed, including over 20,000 children, and 92 percent of Gaza houses were destroyed.
While the ceasefire seems quite successful and has brought celebrations on both sides, given that the war lasted for a long time, what will happen is unclear. Real peace will come when Hamas disarms and Israel totally brings their forces back from Gaza. Most importantly, the rebuilding of Gaza is still politically and militarily uncertain. Approximately two million Palestinian citizens are living in shelters with horrible conditions, which will pose a challenge at the end of the war.
Leaders around the world have praised this ceasefire. Still, real peace depends on the trust Israel and Hamas give to each other and the long and expensive investment in reconstruction, especially to cities like Gaza.
