The Outsiders
The book, The Outsiders, is by S.E. Hinton. The book focuses on the 2 main groups, the Greasers and the Socs. We read the book from Ponyboy Curtis’s point of view. I just finished this book yesterday, and the ending was really sad.
The book is a book about class struggles. The Greasers, the working-class boys from the poorer side of town, are in constant conflict with the Socs, the affluent, privileged youth who often appear to have everything they want. The classes aren’t dealt with money; they are dealt with the way you were brought up and taught to perceive the world. The author vividly compares the 2 lifestyles to show the difference on the way they were brought up.
We follow Ponyboy Curtis on this journey through life. As a 14-year-old, he is caught between two worlds: the youthful innocence of childhood and the harsh realities of the adult world. He is stuck with his identity, not knowing who or what to be. However, by the end of the book, he realizes he can be both a young child and a mature adult.
In conclusion, The Outsiders is a story about the examination of identity and the possibility of change. Through Ponyboy’s journey, S.E. Hinton encourages readers to look beyond appearances and understand the shared humanity that connects us all.
Great work 🙂
