The Labubu Effect: Cute and chaotic sidekick taking over films.
This Summer has found itself a new creature to love, the Labubus. They are fluffy monsters with sharp teeth. They are trendy key-ring dolls, from the Chinese purveyor Pop Mart, known for their completely opposite representations at the same time.
These creatures are popular not only for themselves, but their spirit has also been featured in movies recently. For every major movie released in May, there is a “Labubus” to make the audience love. Disney’s live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch is a notable example of this Labubu effect, with Stitch being remarkably similar to real Labubus. Stitch, being the main character of most of the comedy in this movie, has been popular since the first animated series of Lilo & Stitch.
The other representation of the Labubu effect in movie are toothless in How to train your Dragon, Krypto in Superman, H.E.R.B.I.E in The Fantastic 4: First Steps, Glordon in Elio, and Dolore in Jurassic World Rebirth. These lovable characters symbolize the chaotic but fun childhood, giving fun to children while bringing up memories childhood of their parents.
The Labubu Effect has given people a way to release their pressure in the world of these Labubus, which happens to be what is needed in movies. These traits seem like they will last forever, or will people get tired of watching the same type of chaotic and cute characters?
