Ten-Year-Old Girl Goes to Royal Ballet School
A ten-year-old girl, Jessica Gledhill, has been accepted to the Royal Ballet School in the UK after an audition. She got the news sometime before June 18th.
Jessica Gledhill is a ballet dancer from Noise and Chance School of Dance in Norfolk who started ballet when she was four. The Royal Ballet School is a prestigious ballet training school in the UK. She won a place in the Junior Associate Programme of the Royal Ballet School. At the audition, there were more than 2,000 people. Also, the Junior Associate Programme has only a very small number of places open to young dancers every year. When she found that she had won the place, she “jumped up and down and cried”.
Some people welcome her and are happy, like Jessica’s ballet teacher Trina Lee. Lee was very “pleased” that Jessica made it to the Royal Ballet School. She also said that Jessica’s “technique is beautiful” and that she has enough power and skill to go “as far as she likes” with dancing. A spokesperson for the Royal Ballet School said they were excited to see her in the program, which had lasted for 77 years, starting in 1948.
Dame Ninette recognized the need for a pre-vocational course and introduced a program of classes which ran for a short period, says the Royal Ballet School website. These classes were the straight ancestors of our present-day Junior Associate classes. Later, the classes slowly stopped because of a new Teacher Training Course.
“My legs just wanted to move. I did watch Strictly Come Dancing when I was younger, I was just wow. I want to do that,” Jessica says to BBC Norfolk. When she is dancing, Jessica said that “she felt special, relaxed, and in her comfort zone” when questioned about what she feels when dancing.
Just like that, Jessica is now training at the Royal Ballet School! She did a good job, so let’s encourage her to keep dancing!
