Phineas and Ferb Returns for Another 104 Days of Summer Vacation

For ten years, Phineas and Ferb had no new episodes after running for eight years and ending in 2015; however, the Backyard Gang has returned in 2025 with brand new episodes. With over ten episodes having aired on Disney+, Disney Channel, and DisneyXD, on June 5 and 6, fans noticed a strangely new formula the team behind the show is using.

In the original show, during the runtime between 2007 and 2015, there had always been a repetitive and specific formula Phineas and Ferb followed during the 8 years it aired. According to Reddit user, Mutant_Llama1 (Mutant), “Phineas and Ferb started with that repetitive plot. Two kids want to make something in their back yard. They do it. Perry goes off to fight Doofensmirtz. Doof had daddy issues and wants to mildly inconvenience everybody in the world over it. Candace tries to tell mom what Phineas and Ferb made, she doesn’t believe it, Doof makes it disappear, Mom makes pie.” Even though this formula worked very well, fans soon noticed the pattern of repetition, but unlike other shows, it worked out great for Phineas and Ferb.

In the new season of Phineas and Ferb, the formula that the team once used shifted into a formula that changed the course of the first few episodes. In the first episode of Phineas and Ferb season 5, we witness the original formula being used up until the last quarter of the episode, where Linda (Phineas, Ferb, and Candace’s mom) gets shot by Dr. Doofenshmirtz’s Vaporize-inator and turns into a cloud when Candace attempts to bring her mom out to see what Phineas and Ferb had been doing. Due to Linda having been turned into a cloud, the Backyard Gang and Candace had to save Linda and bring her back to her physical form. However, saving Linda was never a part of the original formula, and Candace helping her brothers had never been implemented in the past.

The first episode of season 5 was a shock to everyone, with the formula that once worked so well now turned into something else. However, unlike most other shows using different formulas and failing, Phineas and Ferb did something that changed their formula, while still retaining the fun and action that the original style of the show was known for. Phineas and Ferb may have been the first to create the formula of repeating a style for a show. Even without the original formula, the show still remains to be as great as it was between 2007 and 2015.
