An entertaining musical from Britain is coming to Broadway
“Two Strangers,” a musical that started in 2019, is arriving on Broadway.
The musical begins when Dougal, a movie usher, rushes to New York. He’s going to New York for his father’s second wedding. When he arrives at the airport, the sister of the bride, called Robin, came to pick Dougal up. They spent two days getting to know each other since the wedding wasn’t until later. The show “Two Strangers” used to be called “The Season.” It was performed a few times in England which was mainly at the New Wolsey Theater in Ipswich or at the Royal & Derngate in Northampton.
The show stars Sam Tutty, who won an Olivier Award for playing the title role in the London production of “Dear Evan Hansen.” Sam Tutty began playing in this musical from the very beginning in 2019. “Two Strangers also stars Christiani Pitts, who last starred on Broadway in an ill-fated musical adaptation of “King Kong.” She started her journey with “Two Strangers” in Cambridge, 2023.
In 2023, the musical changed its name from “The Season” to “Two Strangers.” It was also performed again at Kiln Theater in London. This show was pretty popular, and in 2024, it began to play at the West End. The West End is like Broadway in London. After being a hit at the West End, its popularity grew even more, and now it is spreading to Broadway.
The Telegraph in Britain called it “a total charmer.” The Independent said the show “captures all the messiness of being in your twenties without a plan, showing how big cities can crush anyone naïve enough to see them as a pretty backdrop to their dreams.”
The show’s lyrics, plot, and music are created by Jim Barne and Kit Buchan. It is directed and choreographed by Tim Jackson. The producers of the musical are Kevin McCollum, Tim Johanson, Glass Half Full Productions, and Jamie Wilson Productions.
