Being an Artist is Anyone Expressing Their Thoughts and Feelings

An artist is someone who expresses their way of thinking and ideas through different types of performances.

Anybody who conveys their thoughts is an artist making art. An artist is anyone who expresses their feelings in a creative way. They don’t have to splatter paint on a canvas, or sketch with pencils on paper. I believe an artist can be anyone: a daydreamer, a writer, an architect, and so many more. Even a construction worker can be an artist in how he or she moves the bricks and lifts the planks.

Art is made by an expression of skill or imagination, according to Encyclopedia Britannica. The Oxford Dictionary defines art to be “the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or emotional power” or “works produced by human creative skill and imagination.”

Some famous art pieces were first made in the Renaissance and the Greco-Roman world. The Renaissance literally means “rebirth” in French, according to Encyclopedia Britannica. Early paintings and sculptures were mostly created to express religion, making them another form of art, since they express someone’s beliefs and ideas. Now, art is more open to unique, innovative, or new ideas and styles.

Everything people create is made by human skill and imagination, meaning everything people do creates art. Writers bring their ideas to life through their works using description and suspense. News reporters report what they think is most important and should be valued. Movie directors express their feelings through symbolism and plot. A secretary’s judgement on importance is shown through what they write in their notes. Architects envision their dreams by designing buildings. A leader shows their thinking through the method of maintaining order. Nothing people do is without incentive, meaning that everything people do can be considered a form of art.

Some people may think that artists are confined to visual artists– artists who paint, sculpt, or sketch. Although these people are indeed artists, they aren’t the only artists. Think of it this way: Are the people who believe any given definition of ‘artist,’ expressing their unique thoughts by claiming that this is the ‘true’ definition?

Be open to other people and yourself. Don’t feel bad about expressing personal feelings, even if some disagree. Let’s be clear: everyone’s an artist.
