Taylor Swift Owns Her Own Music
Can you imagine not owning your own music? It sounds crazy, but others can own whatever you write or sing. Taylor Swift bought back her own music on May 30th, giving her full control of her albums.
In 2019, Taylor Swift’s first six albums were sold at an auction for millions of dollars. Although she wrote the songs, she didn’t have full access to them. started to re-record the songs with “Taylor’s Version.”
When Taylor was fourteen, she signed a contract that gave her music to a company called Big Machine. Over the years, the company sold her music to Scooter Braun for lots of money, which meant Scooter had all of Taylor’s albums released before 2019. Taylor Swift was upset. “She claims that Scooter Braun is a ‘bully’ and that she is ‘grossed out’ by him owning her work,” the BBC reports, but Justin Bieber and Demi Lovato say that Scooter is a good man.
Taylor Swift’s song Bad Blood was originally about her feud with Katy Perry, but now, there’s a documentary called “Bad Blood,” showing the fight between Scooter Braun and Taylor Swift.
Taylor has asked her fan to show Scooter that they want Taylor to own her own albums. A day after the post, Big Machine, the company that originally owned Taylor’s albums, replied, saying that Taylor owed one million dollars to them.
Some time after, Kelly Clarkson, an American superstar, suggested something new. “@taylorswift13 just a thought, U should go in & re-record all the songs that U don’t own the masters on exactly how U did them but put brand new art & some kind of incentive so fans will no longer buy the old versions. I’d buy all of the new version just to prove a point 💁🏼‍♀️,” she posted on Twitter.
Taylor Swift agreed and followed Kelly Clarkson’s advice.
Now, Taylor Swift has bought back all of her album for around 360 million dollars. She is now satisfied with her hard work and says she’s crying with joy.
