Minecraft announces more items craftable by copper in their next update
On July 1st, Minecraft announced a new mob, the copper golem. Unfortunately, in the 2021 Minecraft Live fan vote, the copper golem lost. The ally won in the vote instead. They also announced new copper tools, weapons, and armor. These items will be added in the next update, but you can currently test out the new features in beta and preview mode. Unfortunately, only Bedrock players can preview the update; Java players will have to wait longer to get the update.
Mojang’s Game Director Anges Larsson said that he feels good about copper golem coming back, even though it lost in the mob vote. “It feels really good that the copper golem is making a comeback.” He also told us how Mojang comes up with the next updates. “When we look at the visions for future game drops, we always revisit old ideas as well to find the best ideas.”
The new mob copper golem
The copper golem helps players organize their inventory. It can also help you put your items in a chest. For example, if you want to just drop off some items, but you don’t want to manually put all the items in chests, the Copper Golem can do it for you. It doesn’t spawn naturally, so you have to summon it by placing a carved pumpkin on a copper block. When you summon it, it comes with a copper chest. When you put items in the chest, it carries as many items as possible to your other chest inside your base. It even organizes the items. The copper golem can also change colors depending on the level of oxidation on the copper block. For example, if you place the carved pumpkin head in any oxidation level, the copper golem will also be the same level of oxidation as the block. But why add all of this when you can just add a new mob instead of a past one? The reason behind why Mojang brought back the copper golem was because, according to Senior Gameplay engineer Matthew Clohessy: “The copper golem was a fan favourite, and one beloved in the development team as well, and we wanted to bring it back with a bit more of an engaging mechanic, and also because it’s just a cute little thing!”
The new copper tools, weapons, and armor
There is also going to be a new level of equipment, copper. This is pretty important because the tools are good, and copper is “easier for players to find copper than iron.” We know that copper is more abundant than iron because, “Today, it’s increasingly difficult to mine copper because so much has already been extracted. The average amount of copper found in a copper mine today is just 0.6% of the rock. Luckily, there are no such problems in Minecraft. With copper ore just having been added to the game, there’s plenty for everyone.” Copper is between stone and iron. This means that copper tools can have more strength, speed, and durability. This results in good tools, weapons, and armor for less work. For example, copper tools would work more effectively and last longer than stone tools would. This also makes armor much easier to get. The only small downside is that copper pickaxes cannot mine different kinds of resources, just the same amount as stone, but an iron pickaxe would. This will help newer players because, according to Game Director Agnes Larsson, “It’s easier for players to find copper than iron. So for players early in the player journey, we think it will be really helpful that we add this tier of copper tools between stone and iron.”
Good work
