Theater Teacher Receives A Tony Award
Gary Edwin Robinson is the head of the Theater Arts program at Boys and Girls High School in Brooklyn. He won the Tony award for theater education this year. A Tony award is an annual award recognizing excellence in live Broadway theatre. He was very excited when he heard that he got this award.
Why did he receive this award? He received this award because he developed a program, which is around 9 years old that exposes students to opportunities in the arts and beyond. The program prepares students for a pathway into the industry through internships where students can work with professionals. The award gives a 10,000 cash prize. He’s planning to improve his theatre program with this money.
He plans to not stop teaching because he loves his job so much. Even after teaching for 35 years, he doesn’t want to stop doing something he loves. He grew up in New York and was a graduate of He received a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts in theater education.
Gary is just an example of how if you love something, you will never quit it. He started young and fell in love with his job. The way he just keeps teaching after 35 years is amazing.
