My Special Place
Everybody’s special place is different. Maybe it’s their house, their birthplace, or their secret tree house. But mine is my school. The people there are wonderful. They treat me kindly and inclusively. I thought my move to a new school was going to be like the previous school. But to my surprise, it’s not like that. I was truly surprised by how easy it was to transition to this school, it seems fate was kind to me.
The first day of school was at the start of September. I prepared everything for myself to change schools. I told myself to let the student there talk first and engage with you. It turns out that I need none of these. When I stepped out of the car, I could feel the warm welcome from all five senses. I can hear the welcoming from the greeting teacher; I can see the smile that the teacher’s wearing; I can feel the hand helping me down the car; I could taste would the air around me and know that the school is different; I can smell the flower on the side of the parking lot that told me it’s been taken care of at the school.
After I walked into the classroom, the teacher and the students looked at me in surprise. My first thought was “Oh no! Are they not welcoming me? Do they think I’m weird?” Then the teacher said, out of nowhere, “Welcome! We have been waiting for you! Come on in! Welcome!” That marks the start of my nicest starting year in my whole life. This is why it’s special to me.
