Abortion bans have been placed and set to take place in many states including Texas, South Dakota and West Virginia. The Supreme Court released its decision to overturn Roe v. Wade (the legal right to abortion), and within hours there were hundreds of appointment requests for Just the Pill. Just the Pill is a nonprofit organization that arranges ways for patients to get abortion pills throughout many states.

These abortion pills are known as a part of medication abortion, which is a method of abortion authorized by the Food and Drug Administration. According to the article “Abortion Pills Take the Spotlight as States Impose Abortion Bans” by Pam Belluck, the abortion pill “involves taking two different drugs, 24 to 48 hours apart, to stop the development of a pregnancy and then to cause contractions similar to a miscarriage to expel the fetus, a process that usually causes bleeding similar to a heavy period.” Some women prefer this instead of a surgical abortion, especially now that it’s more difficult for women who would like an abortion to actually get one due to the ban.

These abortions laws taking effect is adding a burden for women who are forced to travel out of their home state to other states where abortion remains legal. Because of this, Just the Pill has set up a few mobile clinics to park along state borders to help the many women traveling. “By operating on state borders, we will reduce travel burdens for patients in states with bans or severe limits,” Dr. Amaon said. “And by moving beyond a traditional brick-and-mortar clinic, our mobile clinics can quickly adapt to the courts, state legislatures, and the markets, going wherever the need is.” This way, everything would be legal which would help avoid complications along the way.

The Supreme Court said “abortion, it can only be regulated in sort of a health and safety way when it’s permitted, but it can be completely banned.” This doesn’t really matter to many people since the Court is taking constitutional rights away from women, and people aren’t accepting that. With organizations trying to find ways to make abortion easier, and the Justice Department getting involved in the fight for rights, the outcome is still yet to be revealed.
